Tony Stewart started in the rear of the field in a backup car.

Joey Logano won the pole in both 2015 Martinsville races.

Martinsville Race Notes

Joey Logano won the pole and selected to start in the bottom lane. He led the first 8 laps.

On lap 9 Martin Truex Jr. passed Joey Logano for the lead. He went on to lead the next 27 laps.

Carl Edwards got stuck in the outside lane early and fell back a few positions.

Running order on lap 19: 78,47,22,24,1,31,42,2,41,18 … 11,4,15,13,48,10,9,88,19,20 … 43,16,51,55,3,27,40,6,17,35 …. 38,34,23,14

On lap 36 Joey Logano passed Martin Truex Jr. for the lead.

Martin Truex Jr.’s car was good over short runs, over long runs the #78 dropped off.

On lap 40 Menard was one lap down in 40th.

On lap 44 Jeff Gordon passed Joey Logano for the lead. His car was very good over long runs.

On lap 50 the competition caution came out and Joey Logano retook the lead.

Notable Moment: During the competition caution Denny Hamlin was caught speeding on pit road.

On lap 60 Kurt Busch passed Logano for the lead. He led the next 22 laps.

On lap 82 Joey Logano passed Kurt Busch for the lead. He went on to lead the next 77 laps.

Around lap 95 Matt Kenseth dove into a turn hard and had contact with Keselowski.

Notable Moment: On lap 102 Michael Annett spun and brought out the first caution. He didn’t get any damage.

Running order under caution on lap 112: 22,41,24,20,4,2,48,1,78,18 … 47,15,31,88,42,19,55,14,43,5 … 11,13,9,16,17

Big Moment: On lap 113 shortly after a restart Denny Hamlin who was running around 20th spun. Hamlin didn’t get any notable damage. During that incident Greg Biffle and Danica Patrick got damage. Aric Almirola spun. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was also involved in the wreck.

Big Moment: On lap 127 Ricky Stenhouse Jr. pounded the wall and brought out the caution. Paul Menard got the “free pass” during this caution and got back on the lead lap.

During the Stenhouse Jr. caution Jimmie Johnson came to pit road and said he liked his balance and was just taking care of his car.

During the Stenhouse Jr. caution both Paul Menard and Greg Biffle got penalties on pit road.

Notable Moment: On lap 136 Sam Hornish Jr. spun and brought out the caution.

Running order on lap 145: 22,24,41,4,20,18,47,2,78,1 … 42,15,31,5,14,19,13,48,55,88 … 43,38,10,3,40,7,51,27,35,11 … 46,16

Big Moment: On lap 156 Greg Biffle spun and brought out the caution. Just before that Gilliland got into the back of Patrick and she had hard contact with the wall.

During the Greg Biffle caution Austin Dillon stayed out and got the lead. Also during the Biffle caution Truex Jr. had a slow pit stop that dropped him back to the high-teens.

Notable Moment: On lap 171 Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon both spun. Kyle Busch blamed it on water on the apron. Carl Edwards got nose / hood damage from the accordion effect of the drivers who spun. Edwards was in 16th at the time. Matt Kenseth pitted at this time and it dropped him deep in the running order.

Big Moment: On lap 186 Clint Bowyer was running in 16th and spun into the wall. His car got heavy damage and this led to his last place finish.
