Yahoo C List Fantasy NASCAR Preview – Martinsville STP 500
Chase Elliott – Don’t underestimate Chase Elliott at Martinsville. He’s in great equipment and he’s already vastly exceeded many people’s expectations. Last spring at Martinsville Chase Elliott made his Sprint Cup debut. He started in 27th and finished 38th. I can’t estimate how good he was because he had trouble so early. On lap 64 he was involved in an accordion effect wreck and following that he said he no longer had power steering. By lap 80 he was in the garage area for repairs. Last season in the Xfinity series at short tracks Chase Elliott finished in the top ten every race and had a 5.0 average finish. (DraftKings $8,000)
Brian Vickers – Brian Vickers has been Mr. Excitement at Martinsville the last few times he’s raced here. He’s not afraid to rub fenders and he “never forgets”, like another Mr. Excitement of the past. In some of his more recent starts he’s had run-ins with Kasey Kahne and Matt Kenseth here. His most recent start at Martinsville was in fall 2014 and in that event he finished 27th. In that race he played bumper cars with Brian Vickers and didn’t stop until NASCAR told him “they were done.” In his three Martinsville races prior to that he had results of 8th, 11th and 16th. On Sunday I think he has some sleeper value. Stewart-Haas Racing cars have been great here and even Tony Stewart has had success recently. Last fall with Stewart behind the wheel the #14 car finished 10th. (DraftKings $5,400)
Ryan Blaney – Penske cars have been great at Martinsville and that will make Ryan Blaney a driver to watch. In the Truck Series Blaney he has five starts under his belt and has a 7.8 average finish. In four of his five starts he’s finished in the top ten. His most recent start at Martinsville was in 2014. In his last three starts here in the Trucks he’s finished 5th. (DraftKings $6,600)
Chris Buescher – Last Buescher raced the #34 at Martinsville last spring. For a first start it wasn’t a terrible race given his equipment. In the race he started 35th, finished 24th, had a 27th place average running position and earned the 31st best driver rating. That race was largely about him staying out of trouble and completing laps which is exactly what he accomplished. (DraftKings $5,900)
Brian Scott – Brian Scott has never competed at Martinsville in NASCAR’s top two divisions. In the Trucks he’s raced here a few times but not recently. His most recent start in the Truck Series was a 10th place finish in 2012. His next most recent was in 2009. That year he finished 8th and 24th. To be safe with Brian Scott I would set his baseline fantasy value around the low twenties. (DraftKings $5,600)
