Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Bristol
Every week in NASCAR there’s drivers who have problems in the race and walk away with an asterisk mark result. Understanding misleading finishes and knowing how good drivers truly were can help give you the edge on your competition. Many fantasy racers just look at results and assume that’s how good drivers were. This post explains who had a misleading result last August at Bristol, and how good they truly were.
Matt Kenseth – I really like Matt Kenseth at Bristol. Since the track was reconfigured I would argue he’s been the strongest performer despite what his results indicate. Last August he had a great car and likely had top five potential but his race wasn’t incident free. He started in 13th and on lap 111 while he was racing in 4th his engine blew up. That marked the end of his day.
Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch had a great car at Bristol last August. In fact I thought it was the best. In the race he led the most laps and earned the #1 position in our exclusive PROS Rankings. His 8th place finish underrates how strong he was because his race wasn’t incident free. To earn his good result he had to overcome an unexpected pit stop for a loose wheel and speeding penalty. Those are hard things to recover from at “The Last Great Coliseum.”
Kyle Larson – Bristol has been a good track for Kyle Larson. Last August he ran very well but finished poorly (41st). Performance wise he showed top ten potential but his race was far from incident free. His first problem happened while he was running in 3rd on lap 125 when he had a tire go down and got a commitment cone violation. That wasn’t his last problem. Later in the race around lap 359 while he was running around 20th he got into the wall hard.
