Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Talladega
Every week in NASCAR there’s drivers who have problems in the race and walk away with an asterisk mark result. Understanding misleading finishes and knowing how good drivers truly were can help give you the edge on your competition. Many fantasy racers just look at results and assume that’s how good drivers were. This post explains who had a misleading result last fall at Talladega, and how good they truly were.
Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin had a great car last fall at Talladega but his race wasn’t incident free. He had roof hatch problems that ruined his afternoon. It was flapping open and his team was forced to repair it. The first repair wasn’t adequate and it led to him having to pit to fix it again. That issue led to him finishing a few laps down in 37th. Up until he had that problem he was a consistent top ten performer.

Jamie McMurray – Last falls race ended very controversially but remember who set that up? It was Jamie McMurray. McMurray had a good car and ran up front at the end. Unfortunately his race wasn’t incident free. With 5 laps to go while he was running around 5th his engine blew up which led to his 39th place finish.
Kevin Harvick – Kevin Harvick ruined a lot of afternoons last October but his own finish was also misleading. He easily looked top ten good but in the final quarter of the race he had an ailing engine. At the time of the last restart before he wrecked Bayne his car could only run pace car speed.
