Pocono Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Ryan Newman – Pocono is a good track for Ryan Newman but 2015 was a tough year for him. Last August he was about mid-teens good but his fuel strategy burned him at the end and caused him to finish 23rd. Last June Newman was going for his 10th straight top 12 finish at Pocono but it wasn’t meant to be. With 20 laps to go he was battling AJ Allmendinger for 7th but AJ got loose and took Newman out which led to a 39th place finish. Leading up to that race Newman had five straight top tens. In August 2014 he had a solid afternoon finishing 8th and earning the 11th best driver rating. In June 2014 Ryan Newman didn’t look that good but when the checkered flag waved he finished 7th. His result is largely due to pit strategy. His next three most recent results were finishes of 4th, 5th and 6th. (Yahoo B Driver)

Kyle Larson – Pocono has been a good track for Kyle Larson. He’s raced here four times and has a 9.0 average finish. Also between his combined races he has a 12.0 average running position and has led 12 laps. Currently in the Pocono spring races he has back to back top tens. Last August he had a quality afternoon. He earned the 6th best driver rating, had a 10th place average running position and finished 12th. In June 2015 he had a solid race. He finished 8th, earned the 13th best driver rating and had a 13th place average running position. In 2014 he had a successful rookie season at Pocono. That August Larson started on the pole but never led a lap. He had a good car but for much of the event because of pit strategy he ran in the teens. When the race reached its conclusion he finished 11th and earned the 10th best driver rating. In June 2014 he made his Pocono debut and tested here prior to the race. I would say the extra track time paid off because he finished 5th. A big reason for his success that afternoon was pit strategy. He was out of sync with the field and during his final pit stop he was able to take two tires when many others took four. Also in that event he started in 14th, had a 13th place average running position, earned the 7th best driver rating and led 7 laps. (Yahoo B Driver)
Jamie McMurray – Jamie McMurray has been a relatively safe fantasy NASCAR option at Pocono. Since the track was repaved he’s finished between 7th and 17th every race. In three of the last four Pocono races he’s finished in the top ten. The only other three drivers you can say that about are Dale Earnhardt Jr., Denny Hamlin and Jimmie Johnson and we all know how good they’ve been. Over the last four Pocono races he has a 9.8 average finish and a 13.3 average running position. Last August he had his only result outside of the top ten over this stretch. In that race he finished 15th and had a 15th place average running position. In spring 2015 he performed well. He finished 7th, had an 11th place average running position and earned the 11th best driver rating. Over the last 100 laps of the race he ran 11th or better. In 2014 at Pocono he swept the top ten. In August 2014 he had a great race. He started 8th, finished 7th, earned the 6th best driver rating and had a 10th place average running position. In June 2014 he also performed well. In that race Jamie McMurray started in 18th, had a 17th place average running position and finished 10th. Also in the race he earned the 14th best driver rating and ran in the top fifteen 45% percent of the time. (Yahoo B Driver)
