Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Michigan
Every week in NASCAR there’s drivers who have problems in the race and walk away with an asterisk mark result. Understanding misleading finishes and knowing how good drivers truly were can help give you the edge on your competition. Many fantasy racers just look at results and assume that’s how good drivers were. This post explains who had a misleading result last August at Michigan, and how good they truly were.
Jimmie Johnson – Jimmie Johnson had an adversity filled race last August at Michigan. Nothing went smoothly for him. He had a flat tire which caused him to make an unexpected pit stop which dropped him a lap down, later during a pit stop he missed his pit box which made for a timely stop, and then to cap off his afternoon he spun with 18 laps to go which sent him to the garage. The combination of those problems led to a 39th place finish. With so many problems it’s hard to say just how good he was. Prior to when pit strategy put him back in the field and before he had problems he was running in the top ten. At the time of his late spin that damaged his car he was running in 22nd.
Clint Bowyer – Clint Bowyer ran well in the #15 last August. He had top ten potential but his race wasn’t incident free. On lap 126 shortly after a restart he spun and backed his car into the inside wall after contact with Newman. He was running in 11th prior to his incident. Prior to that race he had 9 straight top tens at Michigan.
