Yahoo C List Fantasy NASCAR Preview – Sonoma
Chase Elliott – Don’t overlook Chase Elliott at Sonoma. Hendrick cars are as good as it gets on this track type. In recent years they’ve all been fast over long runs. That separates the contenders from the pretenders at Sonoma. Chase Elliott has never raced at Sonoma in a NASCAR national series. Last year in the Xfinity Series on this track type he finished in the top ten every race and had a 5.3 average finish. In the Truck Series Chase Elliott has a 2013 road course win in Canada. Heading into Sonoma you have to love his momentum. He now has 6 straight top tens.

Ryan Blaney – Ryan Blaney has never raced at Sonoma and has very limited road course experience. Last year in the Xfinity Series on this track type he only participated in one race. It was at Elkhart lake and he finished 2nd that afternoon. In the Truck Series in 2014 at Bowmanville (Canada) Blaney raced his way to victory lane and led 34 laps. I will note picking him probably isn’t a good idea. In recent years Penske cars have shown some struggles at Sonoma.
Brian Scott – Brian Scott has never raced at Sonoma in a Sprint Cup car. Last year in the Xfinity Series he had success on this track type. Between the three races he had a 5.3 average finish. Between the three Mid-Ohio is probably the most similar and that afternoon he finished 7th. At Sonoma based on how he’s run this season I think he likely a mid-twenties driver.
Chris Buescher – Chris Buecher has never raced at Sonoma. It should be noted that last year he made a Sprint Cup start on this track type at Watkins Glen. He didn’t run well that afternoon and finished 37th. In that race I believe he had some sort of issue under his hood. Last year in the Xfinity Series on this track type he finished 3rd, 4th and 9th.
Landon Cassill – Sonoma should be a long afternoon for Landon Cassill. It’s been a tough track for him. His average finish here minus 2014 when he had an engine failure is 33.5. Last year he finished 36th. At Watkins Glen in 2015 Cassill finished 35th.
