Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Sonoma
Every week in NASCAR there’s drivers who have problems in the race and walk away with an asterisk mark result. Understanding misleading finishes and knowing how good drivers truly were can help give you the edge on your competition. Many fantasy racers just look at results and assume that’s how good drivers were. This post explains who had a misleading result last year at Sonoma, and how good they truly were.
Jimmie Johnson – If you’ve seen our exclusive PROS Rankings then you know Jimmie Johnson had the best car last year and his 6th place finish is misleading. That asterisk mark result is the product of a late caution coming which ultimately put him at a tire disadvantage. If that caution didn’t come out he would’ve won, and certainly not finish 6th.
Carl Edwards – Carl Edwards had a great car last year but finished 40th because his race wasn’t incident free. With 32 laps to go while he was battling for 6th he was involved in a wreck with David Ragan. If his race would’ve been incident free he might’ve had top five potential.
AJ Allmendinger – AJ Allmendinger has run well the last two years at Sonoma but has walked away with a misleading result in both races (2014 Asterisk Mark Report). Last year he was top ten good but just after the mid-point while he was running in 8th he had fuel cell issues that eventually led to him going to the garage. If his race was incident free he would’ve finished in the top ten.
