Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Indy
Every week in NASCAR there’s drivers who have problems in the race and walk away with an asterisk mark result. Understanding misleading finishes and knowing how good drivers truly were can help give you the edge on your competition. Many fantasy racers just look at results and assume that’s how good drivers were. This post explains who had a misleading result last year at Indianapolis, and how good they truly were.
Jeff Gordon – In what was then believed to be his home track good bye last year Jeff Gordon finished 42nd after wrecking. By his standards he didn’t have a good race but performance wise prior to his problem he looked mid-teens good.
Tony Stewart – Tony Stewart had a great car last year and easily had top ten potential. If you just look at his 28th place finish you’ll never know it. His misleading result is the product of extremely poor pit strategy in the last third of the race that put him deep in the field. It was a head scratching call from atop his pit box. From the event it should be noted he earned the 10th best driver rating and had an 11th place average running position.
Carl Edwards – Carl Edwards finished 13th last year. That result doesn’t match his performance. He was top five strong but had a poor late restart with 15 laps to go that dropped him from 2nd back to the high- teens.
