Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Michigan
Every week in NASCAR there’s drivers who have problems in the race and walk away with an asterisk mark finish. Understanding misleading results and knowing how good drivers truly were can help give you the edge on your competition. Many fantasy racers just look at results and assume that’s how good drivers were. This post explains who had a misleading result earlier this year at Michigan, and how good they truly were.
Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch had a good car this spring at Michigan but finished dead last. Performance wise he looked about 8th place good before his early engine failure on lap 53. At the moment of his “kaboom” he was running in 10th. At Michigan Kyle Busch runs extremely well but he’s been an “asterisk mark machine” with the frequency of races he’s had problems here.
Jimmie Johnson – Jimmie Johnson was top ten good but finished 16th this spring. In a large majority of the event he ran in the top ten. Unfortunately his race wasn’t incident free. Shortly after a restart with 38 laps to go he had contact with Trevor Bayne and got into the wall. Prior to that I would estimate his average running position was around 8th.

Martin Truex Jr. – Martin Truex Jr. probably could’ve been top 5 good this spring but finished 12th. Early in the race he ran extremely well. His race wasn’t incident free though. On lap 46 while he was running in 2nd he spun while trying to pass a lapped Clint Bowyer. That got air under his hood which caused some damage. That problem dropped him pretty far back in the running order. He rallied back though and returned to the top ten. Over the closing laps his car became a handful and he lost 5 positions in the last 5 laps.
