Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Richmond
Every week in NASCAR there’s drivers who have problems in the race and walk away with an asterisk mark result. Understanding misleading finishes and knowing how good drivers truly were can help give you the edge on your competition. Many fantasy racers just look at results and assume that’s how good drivers were. This post explains who had a misleading result this spring at Texas, and how good they truly were.
Kurt Busch – Kurt Busch had a great car this spring at Richmond and finished 10th. I will note that was a misleading result. Strength wise in our exclusive PROS Rankings we have him slotted in at #3 in terms of having the best car. In the race he was very impressive and had a great chance to win but self-inflicted mistakes hindered him greatly. In the last quarter of the race he led laps 315 to 360 but a caution came out and during that stop he went from 1st to 5th. Then during the next restart he struggled and dropped to 10th. He never bounced back from that.
Ryan Newman – Ryan Newman had a solid showing this spring at Richmond and was likely low double digits good. His 18th place finish though doesn’t reflect it. With 82 laps to go while he was running just outside the top ten he had a cut tire and spun. That dropped him back to 22nd and he didn’t advance much further towards the front than that when the race reached its conclusion.
Austin Dillon – Austin Dillon had a solid car this spring and was right around 14th place good performance wise. His 20th place finish conceals how good he truly was. With 96 laps to go he had a vibration and came down pit road for an unexpected pit stop. He was running in 14th before he pitted. It dropped him one lap down to 27th.
