Chicagoland NASCAR Practice #1 Notes
Jimmie Johnson – Had very good speed in race trim. He was at the top of the speed chart early, and he remained there for the whole session. Following his first run he said, “Oh yeah, that was nice.” During a later run he said he was pleased with recent changes to his car. Said he had no issues in turn 1. His team did some major changes late. Best 5 lap and ten lap average speeds.
Regan Smith – Missed this practice session to be with his pregnant wife. Ty Dillon practiced his car. There’s potential Ty Dillon might drive the #7 on Sunday.

Aric Almirola – During his first run he reported it was tight and inconsistent through the corners. During his second run he reported he was looser in the corners but his turn through the center didn’t improve much. Later he said his front end felt much better. His car was at its best early in a run before it started to fall off. Said changes were helping. With 10 minutes remaining he said he had better rear grip.
Kurt Busch – His car had some sort of vibration problem early in the session. His team then changed his drive shaft and it remedied the issue. 40 minutes into practice his car drove much better.
Brian Scott – His car was very loose at the start of the session. During his second run he said, “something’s not right.” Late in practice he said his car was driving him and changes weren’t helping.
