Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Daytona
Every week in NASCAR there’s drivers who have problems in the race and walk away with an asterisk mark result. Understanding misleading finishes and knowing how good drivers truly were can help give you the edge on your competition. Many fantasy racers just look at results and assume that’s how good drivers were. This post explains who had a misleading result last summer at Daytona, and how good they truly were.
Here’s our Asterisk Mark Report for the 2016 Daytona 500.
Kurt Busch – No driver had a more misleading result than Kurt Busch last summer at Daytona. On the final lap while he was running in 2nd and the finish line was in sight he was spun and that led to his 23rd place finish. If he wasn’t spun he would be entering the Daytona 500 with a four race top ten streak.
Jimmie Johnson – Jimmie Johnson was top ten good last summer at Daytona but finished a misleading 30th after being involved in the “Big One.” He had a strong car and and was able to overcome an extremely slow pit stop early in the race. One lap prior to wrecking Johnson was racing in 8th.
Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin had a strong car last summer at Daytona and was top ten good but crossed the finish line in 17th. Nothing bad happened to him in the race, he just got “racy” at the end and sometimes when drivers take that gamble at plate tracks it burns them. With 9 laps to go he was racing in 6th.
Jamie McMurray – Jamie McMurray had a very capable car last summer but wrecked in the lap 90 “Big One” that led to his 34th place finish. One lap prior to wrecking he was driving in 9th.
