Atlanta Fantasy NASCAR – The Low Tier
Michael McDowell – At Atlanta I would look for Michael McDowell to likely be a low to mid-twenties finisher. Last year over his final four starts at tracks of this length he had a 17.25 average finish. I will note heavy attrition skewed him up a little bit for that previous stat. On paper Atlanta has been a terrible track for McDowell. He has a 37.3 average finish and hasn’t had a result better than 27th. Last year at Atlanta he was very uncompetitive and finished 7 laps down in 33rd. I wouldn’t read into that too much because his team greatly improved over the course of the season. In 2015 he had his best Atlanta result and finished 27th in his current ride. (Yahoo C Driver)[themify_box]Want to be a better fantasy racer? Landon Cassill – Landon Cassill will likely be a high-twenties finisher at Atlanta. In 5 of the last 7 races at tracks of this length in 2016 he finished between 27th and 29th. The two races he finished outside of that range were heavy attrition events where he finished artificially high. In 10 of the 11 races at 1.5 mile tracks last year he finished between 19th and 31st, his one result outside of that range was at Atlanta. In that race he finished 36th and had a 35th place average running position. In 2015 at Atlanta he finished dead last after having an engine failure. In 2014 he finished 31st. (Yahoo C Driver)
David Ragan – At Atlanta I would look for David Ragan to be a mid to high-twenties driver. From a performance perspective it’s simply how his team stacks up against the competition. In 2 of his last 3 starts at Atlanta when he drove the #34 he finished in the high-twenties. Last year at Atlanta in the #23 Ragan finished 32nd. I will note that his current #34 ride is more competitive than his situation last year. In 2015 at Atlanta he drove the #18 and finished 18th. In his three starts prior to that when he drove the #34 he had results of 23rd, 27th and 28th. (Yahoo C Driver)
Cole Whitt – Cole Whitt hasn’t done a lot to inspire confidence at Atlanta. In his first start in 2014 he finished 6 laps down in 30th. In his last two starts he’s had back to back 37ths. In his last five races at intermediate tracks last season he finished between 27th and 37th. (Yahoo C Driver)
Gray Gaulding – Set the bar really low for Gray Gaulding at Atlanta. He has two Monster Energy starts under his belt and has come home with finishes of 37th and 39th. Atlanta is a “skill track” where the driver can be a difference maker and I think he’s in trouble on Sunday. (Yahoo C Driver)
