Auto Club NASCAR Practice #1 Notes
Jimmie Johnson – Spun an hour into practice and damaged his car when he ran into grass. His team will be going to a backup car. He’ll be able to start the race where he qualifies. Prior to wrecking he was focusing exclusively on qualifying trim.
Brad Keselowski – His crew chief is suspended this race (and the next two). A Penske Xfinity series crew chief is filling in. He still expects to have a good race on Sunday. Focused exclusively on qualifying trim this session.
Kevin Harvick – Was in qualifying trim the entire practice. His team is appealing his crew chiefs suspension and Rodney Childers is at the track this weekend.
Joey Logano – He ran a little over 10 laps in race trim. Among drivers who were in that setup he was one of the fastest. Said his car is really fast and he feels like the speed hangs on pretty well.
Kyle Larson – Ran about 10 laps in race trim. During his first run in qualifying trim he jumped to the top of the speed chart.
