Talladega Fantasy NASCAR Top Tier Elite Picks
Brad Keselowski – Brad Keselowski will be a favorite at Talladega. He’s an elite restrictor plate racer who knows how to race his way to the front and once he gets there he’s hard to get around. In his career at Talladega Keselowski has four wins and has finished in the top ten 59% percent of the time. This spring he had a strong showing. He finished 7th, earned the 2nd best driver rating and led 31 laps. Additionally he won Stage #1. Last fall his car was exceptionally strong and if he didn’t have an engine failure he was going to be the driver beat. Prior to his engine failure he led 90 laps. Last spring he had a great car and raced his way to victory lane. In addition to finishing first he earned the best driver rating, led the most laps (46) and had a 5th place average running position. Joey Logano – Joey Logano will be tough to beat at Talladega. He’s an aggressive plate racer who’s really cemented himself in the conversation of being the best driver on this track type. In the combined plate races since 2015 minus spring 2015 at Talladega where he ran well but wrecked Logano has an 8.3 average finish. At Talladega Logano currently has back to back fall wins. The spring race hasn’t been very friendly to him and over the last four years in that particular event he’s finished 25th or worse. Last fall Logano had a great car and raced his way to victory lane after leading the final 45 laps. He made aggressive moves and overcame a pit stop penalty. Once Logano got to the front nobody could get around him. Last spring Logano had a great car, and was likely one of Keselowski’s toughest competitors, but he was collected in a wreck. If his race was incident free he was a lock for a very good finish. In fall 2015 he was extremely fast and raced his way to victory lane holding off Dale Earnhardt Jr. In addition to winning he earned the 2nd best driver rating, had a 6th place average running position and led 20 laps. In spring 2015 he looked good in the portion of the race he completed but was taken out in a big multi-car wreck. At the time of the incident he was running right around 10th. It should be noted Penske Racing has won 4 of the last 5 Talladega races. (Yahoo A Driver)
Kevin Harvick – Kevin Harvick will be a formidable competitor at Talladega. He’s a strong restictor plate driver and you know he’ll be a factor to win. In this years Daytona 500 in his Ford plate racing debut he likely had the best car and led a race high 50 laps, but was caught up in a wreck. At Talladega Harvick is a former winner who’s finished in the top ten 44% percent of the time and in the top fifteen 63% percent of the time. Recently he’s been a pretty safe fantasy option having 7 straight results in the top 15. Last fall Harvick ran very well and was a consistent front runner late. When the checkered flag waved he finished 7th and earned the 6th best driver rating. In spring 2016 he was involved in two wrecks, but since the attrition rate was so high he managed to finish 15th. From a strength perspective he easily looked top ten good. In fall 2015 Harvick had an ailing engine late but because of a big one caused by him when he hooked Trevor Bayne he finished 15th. In the three Talladega races prior to that Harvick had results of 7th, 8th and 9th. (Yahoo A Driver)
