Dover Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin has been a respectable performer at Dover. Over the last four races at the Monster Mile he has the 8th best driver rating, an 11.8 average running position and a slightly misleading 13.8 average finish. Last year at Dover he had a good season scoring the 5th most points and being one of five drivers who swept the top ten. Last fall he had a very solid showing. In the race he finished 9th, earned the 8th best driver rating and had an 8th place average running position. In spring 2016 Hamlin had a strong car and finished 7th despite having quite a few problems in the race (burned by an early caution, made an unexpected pit stop). In fall 2015 Hamlin finished 18th but I wouldn’t read into that result. He raced with zero effort because it was a meaningless race for him. Early in that race he showed potential and following the competition caution he was the race leader off pit road. Of course he got a speeding penalty and after that he essentially waved the white flag for the weekend. In June 2015 he had a good car and following practice many garage insiders hailed him as the favorite. In the race he started first, led 118 laps and was probably around 5th place good except he wrecked with 15 laps to go while running around 5th. In 2014 at Dover he had results of 5th and 12th. Jamie McMurray – Jamie McMurray is a solid performer at Dover who shouldn’t be overlooked. He had a tough 2016 so hopefully that will help him fly under the radar. At Dover McMurray has proven that he can run well here. Last fall at Dover he had a strong car and was about 10th place good but an engine failure around the mid-point led to his last place finish. In spring 2016 he was likely low to mid-teens good but got some damage in the “Big One” which led to him finishing 5 laps down in 21st. In 2015 McMurray scored the 4th most points and was one of five drivers who finished in the top ten both events. In October 2015 when he was up for Chase elimination he had a great performance but came up short. When the race reached its conclusion he finished 4th, had a 9th place average running position and earned the 9th best driver rating. In spring 2015 he had a quality performance but finished a little better than he performed. In the race he started 11th, had a 13th place average running position and finished 7th. (Yahoo B Driver)
Ryan Blaney – Ryan Blaney should have a solid showing at Dover and hopefully his 23.0 average finish will scare some people away. Last fall he ran well but walked away with a misleading 38th place finish. On lap 105 while he was running in 12th he had a tire go down and nailed the wall. Last spring he dodged the carnage and had a successful Dover debut. When the checkered flag waved he finished 8th, had a 13th place average running position and earned the 11th best driver rating. If late attrition didn’t kick in he looked poised to finish around 10th. Look for Ryan Blaney to contend for a top ten finish on Sunday. (Yahoo B Driver)
