Dover Fantasy NASCAR Top Tier Elite Picks
Jimmie Johnson – Jimmie Johnson is a fantasy juggernaut at Dover. At the Monster Mile he has 10 wins, has finished in the top five 50% percent of the time, in the top ten 70% percent of the time and has led over 3,000 laps. Since 2008 he’s only finished outside the top 9 four times and in all of those races you can put an asterisk mark next to his result. Last fall at Dover Johnson finished a misleading 7th. Performance wise I thought he had the best car. His misleading result is the product of him getting caught speeding on pit road while leading. Prior to his penalty he led 90 laps and was driving away from the field. In spring 2016 I thought he had top five potential but he had problems during a restart which caused a big one leading to his 25th place finish. Over long runs he arguably had the best car. In fall 2015 he also looked strong but finished a misleading 41st. In the race he started in 5th and at the time of the lap 40 competition caution he was running in 4th. Then during that stop he was caught speeding on pit road which dropped him back to the high-twenties. While he was working his way back to the front he had a parts failure that led to his misleading result. In spring 2015 he didn’t have the best car but over the course of the event the #48 car got better and better. During a late restart he passed Kevin Harvick for the lead and after that it was game over for the competition. In the race Johnson started 14th, had a 5th place average running position, earned the 3rd best driver rating and led 23 laps. In the three Dover races prior to that he had results of 1st, 1st and 3rd. (Yahoo A Driver)

Martin Truex Jr. – Martin Truex Jr. will be tough to beat at Dover. He’s the most recent winner and it ranks as one of his very best tracks. Since 2014 at the Monster Mile he’s finished in the top 11 every race, has a 6.7 average finish and an 8.7 average running position. Last fall Truex Jr. had a great car and raced his way to victory lane. When the race reached its conclusion he had a 2nd place average running position, led a race high 187 laps and had a race high 82 fastest laps. The pace he set was blistering. Last spring Truex Jr. had one of the best cars. He got caught up in the “Big One” but was able to keep going and come home with a good finish. When the checkered flag waved he earned the 2nd best driver rating, had a 5th place average running position, finished 9th and led 47 laps. In fall 2015 he had a solid race despite starting in the rear of the field for an unapproved adjustment. That wasn’t a major issue because he was able to slice and dice his way up through the running order but it prevented him from getting a really good result. When the race came to its conclusion he finished 11th and had an 11th place average running position. In spring 2015 he had a great car and led the most laps (131). In the race he started 2nd, had a 3rd place average running position, earned the best driver rating and finished 6th. Over long runs he had one of the best cars in the field. In 2014 he had results of 6th and 7th. (Yahoo A Driver)
Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch is an elite performer at Dover and on Sunday I would look for him to be a favorite. In his career at Dover he has two wins, has finished in the top five 46% percent of the time and in the top ten 63% percent of the time. Last fall he was very competitive. When the checkered flag waved he finished 2nd, had a 2nd place average running position, earned the 2nd best driver rating and led 102 laps. In spring 2016 he was probably around 10th place good performance wise but finished 30th because he was caught up in the “Big One.” In fall 2015 he had a great car and finished runner-up. In addition to finishing 2nd it should be noted he earned the 2nd best driver rating, had a 3rd place average running position and led 19 laps. In spring 2015 Busch had a great car that was strong over long runs. In the race he finished a very misleading 36th. The reason for his poor result can be traced to his involvement in a wreck with 24 laps to go while he was running in third. (Yahoo A Driver)
