Aric Almirola started in the rear of the field for changing his rear gear.

Martin Truex Jr. who started on the pole selected the low-line and led the opening 16 laps.
On the second lap Kurt Busch who started in 40th was up to 28th.

Kurt Busch was happy with his car. When he won in spring 2016 he had some special gearing. In this race all of his teammates used it.
Joey Logano started in 10th and was in 5th on lap 16. He really liked his car everywhere except in turn 3.
During the competition caution on lap 15 Brad Keselowski and Greg Biffle elected not to pit.
Big Moment: On lap 20 while running in 3rd shortly after a restart, Truex Jr. had a cut tire and nailed the wall.
Big Moment: On lap 20 while running in 4th during a restart Paul Menard had some sort of transmission problem and couldn’t get up to speed. This led to Menard going to the garage area.
Following the lap 20 caution during a restart Greg Biffle maintained the lead.

On lap 33 Joey Logano took the lead and then led the next 18 laps.

Notable Moment: On lap 40 Martin Truex Jr. had another flat tire.
41 laps into the race Kevin Harvick had the fastest car on the track.
Notable Moment: During a round of pit stops on lap 50 Jeff Gordon got a pit penalty. A few laps later Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Michael McDowell were also caught speeding. Danica Patrick was also caught a few laps later speeding on pit road.
On lap 55 Aric Almirola wasn’t happy with how his car was performing.
