Michigan NASCAR Happy Hour Practice Notes

Jimmie Johnson – Between practice sessions his team opted to roll out a backup car. As a result he’ll start in the rear of the field on Sunday and will be scored from the 13th place starting position. It was reported that 4 of his last 5 wins came from starting in the back. Got out on the track about 20 minutes into practice. His backup car had good speed and he ended the session 9th on the speed chart.

AJ Allmendinger – Wrecked in the final minute of practice and will be going to a backup car. He will be scored from the 25th place starting position. His primary car didn’t look like competitive.

Daniel Suarez – Starting in the back on Sunday after changing a tire. He will be scored from the 20th place starting position. Showed some good long run speed.

Erik Jones – Did some practice saving fuel at the end. Said his car felt terrible on new tires. Was better on old tires. Had good speed and ended the session 5th on the speed chart. At the end he said, “I think we’ll be pretty good tomorrow.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr .– 20 minutes into practice he said, “I like the speed and the lap times.”
