Chicagoland NASCAR Practice #1 Notes

Kurt Busch – Had some sort of engine issue an hour into practice. His team had problems getting his car to re-fire. Appears he focused on qualifying trim exclusively unless he did a mini-run in race trim to start the session.

Jimmie Johnson – His car was tight, said he didn’t have what they needed yet but they’ll get there. Tested here a little bit ago. During a late run he said his car was still tight.

Kyle Larson – Was one of just a few Playoff drivers who spent time in race trim. Among Playoff drivers who were in that setup his speed ranked as the 3rd best. When he went to qualifying trim an hour into practice he jumped up to 2nd on the speed chart.

Paul Menard – 30 minutes into practice while he was 30th he said, “Still tight center, and I need changes to improve drive off.” Late in practice his team was changing his transmission.

Kasey Kahne – Ran 6 laps in race trim and was 24th on the speed chart before transitioning to qualifying trim.
