This was the first race on the reconfigured/repaved Texas. That means prior track history is now irrelevant.
Drivers who started in the back: Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, Trevor Bayne, Reed Sorenson, Jeffrey Earnhardt, Timmy Hill and Derrike Cope.

Texas Race Notes
Big Moment: When the race started Austin Dillon was in the garage area. He had some sort of trailing arm failure. On lap 12 he finally got out on the track.
Kevin Harvick who won the pole selected the low-line. He led the opening 15 laps.
Notable Moment: On lap 11 Reed Sorenson and Jeffrey Earnhardt wrecked.
During the lap 15 restart Ryan Blaney passed Kevin Harvick for the lead. He then led the next 17 laps.

During the competition caution on pit road Chris Buescher who was 16th was spun. He didn’t get any damage but it cost him a ton of track position.
During the competition caution Kyle Larson got a pit penalty.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. who was in 10th on lap 65 was happy with his handling.

Kyle Larson’s car was phenomenal. He had no trouble passing cars and bouncing back from his pit penalty.

On lap 99 Jamie McMurray thought he had a loose wheel. He was in 4th at the time. He wanted to ride it out for a little bit.

Cole Pearn, Martin Truex Jr.’s crew chief liked the 78 because he was able to maintain his pace good over long runs.
