Daytona 500 NASCAR Practice #1 Notes
NOTE: This practice session was mostly about single car runs.
Joe Gibbs Racing General – Near the end of practice all four JGR cars worked together in the draft.
Chevy General Notes – Chevy appeared to have the fastest cars again in terms of single car speed.
William Byron – Said he’s prepared as he’s ever been at any level. There was a long caution this session and it was caused when Byron had a rear gear seal come loose.
Alex Bowman – Had good single car speed and was at the top of the speed chart early. In terms of single car speed he likely had the fastest car.
Ty Dillon – During his first run he said, “Not bad. The balance is pretty unique, but nothing to crazy.” 30 minutes into practice he said, “A little more stable that time. Grip was better and smoother.”
Jimmie Johnson – His team had a busy practice session shaking down things. Has a fast car.
Kevin Harvick – Wasn’t that happy with his Clash car earlier in the day. All four Stewart-Haas Racing cars used different setups so they could find out what worked best.
Austin Dillon – Had the fastest practice speed but he was aided that lap by drafting.
