Phoenix NASCAR Practice #2 Notes

Chase Elliott – Following his first run he was happy with his handling. “Probably one of the best we’ve had here.” Jeff Gordon thought a long run made by him just past the midpoint was impressive. Had the second best 15 lap average. Best 20 lap average (not many drivers made a run that long).

Denny Hamlin – Jeff Gordon thought his car looked really good. Started with a 15 lap run. Felt like he was tight everywhere. After changes were made he reported that he was still tight. Had the best 15 laps average.

Kevin Harvick – Very good long run speed during his opening run. On fresh tires he caught the eye of Ryan Newman’s crew chief.

Erik Jones – Had power steering problems this session. Said overall he has a decent baseline to work on. Said he has decent speed but wants to be a little better over long runs.

Michael McDowell – 10 minutes into practice he reported that he was too free. 25 minutes into practice he said, “I felt like that was a gain on entry.” Said he has good long run speed but has work to do.
