Auto Club Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
William Byron – William Byron is fresh off a career best 12th place finish at Phoenix. Let’s hope he can build off that result and have a good performance at Auto Club Speedway. This year at intermediate tracks he has results of 18th and 27th. In both of those races he was very uncompetitive. Now that he’s starting to build a note book hopefully his team can start finding speed. On Sunday I would look for Byron to be a high-teens to low-twenties driver.

Trevor Bayne – Nothing good has ever happened to Trevor Bayne at Auto Club Speedway. He has a 25.5 average finish with all four of his results being between 20th and 30th. Last year he was having a respectable performance but he walked away with a misleading 23rd place finish. With 4 laps to go while he was running around 15th he had contact with teammate Ricky Stenhouse Jr. which resulted in him pancaking his car into the wall. Performance wise he was clearly a low-double digits to mid-teens driver. His average running position for the afternoon was 14th. In 2016 he finished 20th and had a 21st place average running position. It should be noted he did look better than his result. Around lap 108 while he was running around the mid-teens he got into the wall and brought out the caution. In 2015 in his first start in the #6 at Auto Club he had a poor performance and finished 29th. Michigan is a similar 1.5 mile track and last year Bayne had results of 5th and 7th there. On Sunday I would look for Bayne to likely be a high-teens driver who has upside to potentially finish in the mid-teens.
Kasey Kahne – Keep down your expectations for Kasey Kahne at Auto Club Speedway. He hasn’t run well here recently, and he hasn’t performed all that great at intermediate tracks this year. This season at intermediate tracks he has results of 19th and 21st. On Sunday I would look for Kahne to finish around that range again. At Auto Club, Kahne has four straight results of 20th or worse. Last year he crossed the finish line in 20th. In 2016 he didn’t have a good race and finished 28th. It should be noted it wasn’t incident free. Around lap 36 while he was running around the mid-teens he made an unscheduled pit stop for a flat tire. After that you could stick a fork in him because he never ran well after that. In 2015 he ran well but finished a misleading 17th. At the end he would’ve finished around 8th but the Green-White-Checker really hurt him.
