Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Pocono
Every week in NASCAR there’s drivers who have problems in the race and walk away with an asterisk mark result. Understanding misleading finishes and knowing how good drivers truly were can help give you the edge on your competition. Many fantasy racers just look at results and assume that’s how good drivers were. This post explains who had a misleading result last summer at Pocono, and how good they truly were.
Jimmie Johnson – The “Tricky Triangle” has become a treacherous track for Jimmie Johnson. In 3 of the last 4 races he’s wrecked. Last year he wrecked in both events. In July 2017 I thought he likely looked low double-digits good but on lap 58 he backed his car into the wall which marked the end of his race. Last spring he was a top ten contender but finished 36th after wrecking on lap 95 while running in 7th.
Ryan Blaney – Ryan Blaney had a very competitive car last summer at Pocono. “Performance Wise” I thought he was likely a top five contender but he finished a misleading 30th. On lap 63 he had a tire rub and made an unexpected pit stop. On lap 68 he came down pit road again and that doomed him to a poor finish. In Stage #1 shortly before his problems started he finished 5th.
Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson was a top five contender last summer at Pocono but he finished a misleading 33rd. On lap 70 while he was running in 4th his drive shaft broke and that’s what doomed him to his poor result.
Aric Almirola – How good was Aric Almirola last summer at Pocono? I don’t know. He never completed a lap. On the opening lap in turn 3 he wrecked and it marked the end of his race dooming him to a last place finish. In June 2017 he missed the race due to injury, so technically last year he completed zero laps at Pocono.
