Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Sonoma
Martin Truex Jr. – Last year at Sonoma, nobody had a more misleading result than Martin Truex Jr. “Strength Wise”, there’s no question he had one of the best cars. In our PROS Rankings he’s ranked as having the 2nd best car. In the race he had the best Green Flag Average Speed and was the Fastest Driver Late in a run, but near the conclusion while he was running in 2nd he had engine problems which led to 37th place result. Also, in the race it should be noted he won Stage #1.

AJ Allmendinger – Getting Asterisk Mark results at Sonoma has become the norm for AJ Allmendinger with him finishing 35th or worse in 3 of the last 4 races. He runs well here but picking him carries a lot of risk. Last year he had a fast car but finished a misleading 35th. Strength Wise he was top ten good but his race wasn’t incident free. In the race he finished 2nd in Stage #1 but shortly after that on lap 38 while he was running in the top five he spun. Kyle Larson clipped him and after that he radioed his team and said he “Killed it.” Later in the race with 38 laps to go electrical problems developed and that doomed him to his poor result.
Austin Dillon – Austin Dillon had a solid car last year at Sonoma but finished an Asterisk Mark 18th. Strength Wise there’s no question he was a top ten contender. He finished 8th in Stage #1, 8th in Stage #2 and then with 6 laps to go while he was running in 8th he spun in turn 11. That quickly dropped him back to 11th and from that point on he faded back to his 18th place result.
