Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Chicagoland
Every week in NASCAR there’s drivers who have problems in the race and walk away with an asterisk mark result. Understanding misleading finishes and knowing how good drivers truly were can help give you the edge on your competition. Many fantasy racers just look at results and assume that’s how good drivers were. This post explains who had a misleading result last year at Chicagoland, and how good they truly were.
Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch had a phenomenal car last fall at Chicagoland but finished an asterisk mark 15th. “Performance Wise” a case could be made that he had the best car. In the race he started on the pole, won Stage #1, led 85 of the first 87 laps but then on lap 97 while he was running in 2nd he made an unexpected pit stop for a loose wheel. As he was coming to his stall his pit crew went over the wall too soon and that resulted in a penalty which dropped him two laps down to 27th. The race lacked cautions and he wasn’t able to bounce back from this.
Kurt Busch – Kurt Busch was a top ten contender last year at Chicagoland but his race wasn’t incident free and he finished a misleading 19th. On lap 201 he made an unexpected pit stop for a vibration and as he was coming down pit road he was caught speeding. The race was full of long green flag runs so he wasn’t able to bounce back. Prior to his problem he finished 8th in Stage #2.
