Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Pocono
Every week in NASCAR there’s drivers who have problems in the race and walk away with an asterisk mark result. Understanding misleading finishes and knowing how good drivers truly were can help give you the edge on your competition. Many fantasy racers just look at results and assume that’s how good drivers were. This post explains who had a misleading result this spring at Pocono, and how good they truly were.
Clint Bowyer – Clint Bowyer had one of the more misleading results this spring at Pocono and finished an asterisk mark 25th. With 7 laps to go while he was running in the top ten something happened to his car and he dramatically dropped in the running order. Fortunately two laps later he was up to speed again. Shortly before his problem he was running in 8th. Additionally from the race it should be noted Bowyer had a 7th place average running position, earned the 8th best driver rating, finished 4th in Stage #1 and finished 3rd in Stage #2. If he didn’t have problems I think he clearly would’ve finished in the top ten.
Denny Hamlin – This spring at Pocono, Denny Hamlin had a good but not great car. Unfortunately he didn’t have an incident free race and finished an asterisk mark 35th. With 14 laps to go while he was battling Alex Bowman for 11th he wrecked. If Denny Hamlin would’ve had an incident free race I think he likely would’ve been around 10th place good. His average running position, which isn’t too skewed since he wrecked late was 11th.
Alex Bowman – Alex Bowman had a competitive car this spring at Pocono but finished a misleading 27th. With 14 laps to go while he was battling Denny Hamlin for 11th they had contact and he got a good amount of damage from that incident.
Kasey Kahne – Kasey Kahne didn’t have a good race at Pocono this spring. “Performance Wise” I think he was likely a low-twenties driver but he finished an asterisk mark 36th after having transmission problems. Five laps prior to his early exit on lap 120 he was running in 22nd.
