Darlington Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Matt Kenseth – Matt Kenseth will be piloting the #6 at Darlington. Its been a great track for him, but he isn’t in a competitive situation. Realistically I think he’ll be a high-teens driver. Maybe mid-teens good if things go really well. At Darlington, Kenseth has performed at an extremely high-level but you can essentially void his track record because of the car he’s driving. In 5 of the last 6 races at “The Lady In Black” he’s finished in the top 6. Currently he has back to back 6th’s. In 2015 he had a strong car but had an early flat tire while running in 3rd and that created a long evening for him leading to a 21st place finish. In the three races prior to that he had results of 4th, 1st and 6th.

Chris Buescher – Chris Buescher has been consistent at Darlington. In both his races he’s started poorly and has went on to finish 17th. Last year he started in 27th and went on to finish 17th. Additionally he had a 21st place average running position and earned the 19th best driver rating. In 2016 he had a strong debut, given his situation. He started 31st but wheeled his car home to a 17th place result. Additionally in the race he had a 19th place average running position and earned the 19th best driver rating. On Sunday I would look for Chris Buescher to likely be a high-teens driver.
Kasey Kahne – Kasey Kahne has some dark horse potential at Darlington, but not much. It’s a “Skill Track” where the driver is a big difference maker so that brings him a little more into the equation. That said, on Sunday night I would look for him to be his typical high-teens to low-twenties self. Since 2011 minus 2014 when he was caught up in a wreck he has a 12.0 average finish and a 11.3 average running position. Last year, Kahne didn’t run well. He started 23rd, finished 24th, had a 21st place average running position and earned the 22nd best driver rating. In 2016 Kahne had a strong showing at Darlington. When the checkered flag waved he finished 7th, earned the 11th best driver rating and had a 13th place average running position. In 2015 he had a 21st place average running position but finished 12th. In 2014 he had a good car. He started in 22nd and probably ran half the race in the top ten. When the checkered flag waved he finished 37th but that result deserves an asterisk mark. With 44 laps to go while he was running in 12th he pounded the wall hard.
