Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Indianapolis
Every week in NASCAR there’s drivers who have problems in the race and walk away with an asterisk mark result. Understanding misleading finishes and knowing how good drivers truly were can help give you the edge on your competition. Many fantasy racers just look at results and assume that’s how good drivers were. This post explains who had a misleading result last year at Indianapolis, and how good they truly were.
Kyle Busch – Last year at Indianapolis, Kyle Busch was the class of the field. He earned the best driver rating, led the most laps (87) and won the first two Stages. Unfortunately his race wasn’t incident free and he finished an asterisk mark 34th. On lap 111 during a restart while he was racing Truex Jr. for the lead he wrecked. If his race would’ve been incident free I think he would’ve won and at worst he was a lock for a top two finish.
Martin Truex Jr. – Martin Truex Jr. had a phenomenal car last year at Indianapolis, but finished a misleading 33rd. In the race he finished 2nd in Stage #1 and 2nd in Stage #2. Unfortunately his race wasn’t incident free. On lap 111, while he was the leader during a restart (passed Busch on pit road) he wrecked. If his race would’ve been incident free I thought he had the 2nd best car and at worst he would’ve finished in the top five.
Ryan Blaney – Ryan Blaney had a strong car last year at Indianapolis but finished an asterisk mark 23rd after wrecking. In the race he finished 2nd in Stage #1, 2nd in Stage #2 but with 6 laps to go while he was running around 12th he was caught up in a multi-car wreck. If the race would’ve played out conventionally I think he would’ve finished in the top ten and had a great chance to finish in the top five. Right before all the massive mayhem ensued he was running in 3rd.
