Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Dover
Every week in NASCAR there’s drivers who have problems in the race and walk away with an asterisk mark result. Understanding misleading finishes and knowing how good drivers truly were can help give you the edge on your competition. Many fantasy racers just look at results and assume that’s how good drivers were. This post explains who had a misleading result this spring at Dover, and how good they truly were.
Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch had a phenomenal car this spring at Dover but finished an asterisk mark 35th. “Strength Wise”, there’s no question he had one of the best cars. He finished 2nd in Stage #1 and 3rd in Stage #2. While he was running in 3rd just after the midpoint his drive shaft broke and that marked the end of his race.

Joey Logano – Joey Logano had a good car this spring at Dover but finished a slightly misleading 13th. In the race he finished 9th in Stage #1, 10th in Stage #2 but during the Red Flag for rain caution (~80 laps to go) while he was running in the top five he had to make a second pit stop for a loose wheel. If that didn’t happen I think he would’ve finished in the top ten.
Kyle Larson – This spring at Dover, Kyle Larson finished 10th, but I think he was better than his result. In the race he faced a tremendous amount of adversity. He was supposed to start on the pole, but started in the rear of the field because of a pre-race inspection issue. He had no trouble advancing in the running order and on lap 78 he was up to 8th. Then on lap 98 trouble surfaced again and during his pit stop under green his team had an uncontrolled tire and that penalty impacted him for the rest of the afternoon. If he would’ve had an incident free race I think there’s a good chance a top five might’ve been achievable.
