Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Homestead
Kurt Busch – Kurt Busch was a top ten contender last year at Homestead, but finished an asterisk mark 22nd. With 40 laps to go while he was running in 10th he spun. At that time, Daniel Suarez was leaking brake fluid and I’ll speculate that’s the reason why he spun. If Busch would’ve had an incident free race I have no doubt he likely would’ve finished in the top ten. He finished 7th in Stage #1, 6th in Stage #2 and had a 9th place average running position despite his problem.
Jimmie Johnson – Jimmie Johnson didn’t have an incident free race last year at Homestead and finished a misleading 27th. In the race he started 22nd, was in 9th on lap 20, but then on lap 38 he said something was wrong with his car and he had a flat tire. Later on lap 67 his car was filled with smoke and he made an unexpected pit stop which dropped him two laps down into the low-thirties.
Daniel Suarez – Daniel Suarez was poised to have a respectable race last year at Homestead but he walked away with an asterisk mark 34th place finish. Realistically I thought he was likely about mid-teens good but with about 40 laps to go he had a brake fluid leak while running around 14th which sent him to the garage dooming him to his poor result.
Ryan Blaney – Ryan Blaney didn’t have a good race last year at Homestead and finished three laps down in 29th. In the race he started in 11th but by lap 20 he was back to 28th. There was no specific problem mentioned in the telecast so I’ll speculate he likely got into the wall and damaged his car. In 2017 he got into the wall early and often so him having that problem has happened before.
