Martin Truex Jr. – Focused exclusively on qualifying trim. His opening run put him at the top of the speed chart. He felt really good about his car. He ended the session as the fastest.
Kevin Harvick – Focused on qualifying trim exclusively. His opening run put him 2nd. There was room for improvement with his run. Tony Gibson is serving as his crew chief again since Rodney Childers is suspended. He ended the session 5th.

Kyle Busch – Focused exclusively on qualifying trim. His opening run 25 minutes into practice put him at the top of the speed chart. His car wasn’t feeling exactly like how he wanted. He was looking for a little more speed. He ended the session 2nd.
Joey Logano – Focused on qualifying trim. His opening run put him 17th on the speed chart. Following his second run he didn’t pick up any speed and was still 17th. His 3rd run jumped him up to 14th which was supposedly quick compared to other drivers during their third run.
Alex Bowman – Started in race trim with an 8 lap run. Among drivers in race trim early (not very many) he was the fastest. Following his opening run he said, “Taking off I was tight center off. I had to get the track bar up. The tight center stayed the same.”
Chase Elliott – Was happy with his car in qualifying trim. To describe his car he said, “nice and straight.” Late in practice he jumped up to 3rd.
Ty Dillon – Started in race trim with a 4 laps run. Following his run he said, “The car is lacking drive and a lot of rear grip on entry and exit. It may be because the track is green.”
AJ Allmendinger – Focused on race trim early. “Balance through the middle and initial throttle is good. Still needs more rear grip on exit.”
David Ragan – Focused on race trim early. Following his opening run he said, “40-50% of what I needed.”
Denny Hamlin – Focused on qualifying trim. Following his second run he was in 9th. “My rolling in the center was ok but I need to turn better on the throttle.”
William Byron – Spent some time in race trim at the start of practice.
Kyle Larson – Focused on qualifying trim exclusively. Following his second run he was 7th. He ended the session 11th.
Jimmie Johnson – 50 minutes into practice while he was 20th he said, “I feel we’re getting better, I wish the laptop reflected that.” His final run in practice an hour into the session jumped him up to 11th.
Ryan Newman – 50 minutes into practice while he was 16th he said the toe of his car doesn’t feel right. He focused on qualifying trim exclusively.
Matt DiBenedetto – An hour into practice while he was 28th he said, “Tight landing again and tight on throttle in one and two.”
Regan Smith – Late in practice in qualifying trim he said, “That’s the first time it’s felt normal.”
William Byron – His third run late in practice put him 21st. Following his run he was looking for a little more grip.[/restrict]
