The Low Tier – Richmond
Michael McDowell – At Richmond, I would be happy if Michael McDowell would finish in the mid-twenties. His team simply hasn’t been competitive this season and it’s been a down year, even for him. I’ll note, spring Richmond races haven’t been kind to him and over the last three of this particular event he’s finished between 29th to 31st. At Richmond over the last four combined races he sports a 25.0 average finish and a 27.5 average running position. Last fall at Richmond he had a quiet race. He finished 24th and had a 26th place average running position. Last spring he was quite bad and finished 31st. Phoenix is a similar track and at that venue this spring he crashed and finished 36th.
Matt Tifft – At Richmond, I would look for Matt Tifft to be a mid to high-twenties driver. That’s essentially how his team stacks up against the competition on a week to week basis. That said, at Phoenix which is a similar track he had his best performance of the season. In the desert he finished 20th, had a 25th place average running position and earned the 26th best driver rating.
Corey LaJoie – If you pick Corey LaJoie, you probably knowing what you’re getting yourself into. Look for him to be a high-twenties to low-thirties driver. That range has essentially been his teams weekly level of performance in 2019. Phoenix is the most similar track visited this year and at that venue he finished 26th. At Richmond, he has three starts under his belt and in every event he’s finished between 29th to 32nd. Last fall when he made his lone Richmond start for the season he finished 32nd.
Ross Chastain – At Richmond, look for Chastain to be a high-twenties to low-thirties driver. Last year he started 30th in both races and came home with results of 33rd (fall) and 28th (spring). Phoenix is a similar track and this spring at that venue he finished 27th.
Landon Cassill – Landon Cassill has very low fantasy value at Richmond. I think he’s poised to finish in the thirties and the best case scenario for him is a result in the high-twenties. At Richmond in 4 of the last 5 races he’s finished in the 30’s. Last year he finished 36th in the fall and 34th in the spring. This spring at Phoenix, a similar track he finished 33rd.
