The Low Tier – Talladega
Michael McDowell – 2019 has been a horrendous season for McDowell, even by Front Row Motorsports standards. Some good news is that at Daytona he had his lone bright spot and finished 5th. Talladega hasn’t been kind to McDowell. He’s never finished better than 15th and his average finish is 30.6. Last year he crashed in both races and had results of 40th and 32nd. In 2017 he also crashed in both races and had results of 30th and 34th.

Ross Chastain – Last year at Talladega, Chastain started in the mid-thirties both races and finished in the mid-twenties both races. In 2018 he finished 24th in the fall, and 25th in the spring. In the season opening Daytona 500 he avoided the mass attrition and finished 10th. If he can avoid trouble on Sunday I wouldn’t be surprised to see him sneak in another good result.
Matt Tifft – If you want to pick Matt Tifft, why not pick him at Talladega. The draft is a great equalizer and it provides him the rare opportunity to potentially sneak in a good result. This year on the track he has yet to finish better than 20th. In the season opening Daytona 500 he wrecked and finished 36th.
Landon Cassill – There’s nothing wrong with rolling the dice on low guys like Landon Cassill at Talladega, but his level of success hasn’t been very high here. Since 2015 his best result is 11th and his other 6 results are outside the top 20. Currently he has four straight results in the 20’s. Last year in his lone start he finished 22nd in the fall. In 2017 he had a DNF in both races and had results of 28th and 29th. In the season opening Daytona 500 he finished 24th.
Corey LaJoie – If Corey LaJoie is going to sneak in a good result anywhere, it’s Talladega. That said, I wouldn’t set the bar too high. Over his seven combined starts at Super Speedway’s he only has one result better than 18th and a 26.1 average finish. At Talladega, LaJoie has two starts under his belt. He finished 32nd last fall and in spring 2017 he finished 27th. In the season opening Daytona 500 he finished 18th.
