Dover Post Practice Fantasy NASCAR Predictions
Unfortunately, weather has been more of a story than most other things this weekend at Dover International Speedway, as fog cancelled the second scheduled practice of the weekend on Saturday and rain is threatening to delay and maybe even postpone the race on Sunday. Currently, the forecast is showing rain at Dover from midnight through 5 pm, but hopefully that will change. Once the cars get going, though, it’s sure to be a great race.
Chase Elliott is on the pole for this weekend’s Gander RV 400 and will have his teammate, William Byron, starting alongside him. Final Top 25 Fantasy NASCAR Rankings for Dover
1. Chase Elliott – Starts 1st – DraftKings Price: $9,800 – FanDuel Price: $13,000 – Slingshot Price: $12,700
Chase Elliott is going to be a popular Fantasy NASCAR pick this weekend, and for good reason: he’s coming off of that win at Talladega last weekend, and he’s also the most recent race winner here at Dover, going to victory lane here last October after starting 9th and only leading 11 laps. Don’t let those limited number of laps led fool you, though: Dover has consistently been one of Chase’s best tracks on the schedule, and statistically it’s his very best, as he has an average finish of 4.3 over six career starts at “The Monster Mile.” The #9 Chevrolet came home 12th in this race one year ago but that’s Elliott’s only finish outside of the top 5 at Dover. As far as this weekend goes, Chase is on the pole for Sunday’s Gander RV 400 and looked sporty in Saturday’s practice session as well, posting the 10th-fastest lap and putting up the 7th-best ten-lap average. Several drivers have mentioned this weekend that it’s going to be difficult to pass the leader, and Chase is in prime position to take advantage of that on Sunday. He should lead quite a bit and also contend for the win yet again.
2. Joey Logano – Starts 4th – DraftKings Price: $11,800 – FanDuel Price: $14,500 – Slingshot Price: $11,800
Dover has been a tough track for Joey Logano as of late, but with how this team is running right now, I think he’s going to turn things around this weekend. With his 4th-place finish at Talladega last weekend, Joey now has three straight top 5 finishes in Cup Series action, and has finished inside that range in five of the last eight. As far as Dover goes, Joey did finish 3rd in the fall race here last season, but that’s his only top 5 finish at “The Monster Mile” since the 2014 season, and in four of the last six races here he’s finished 13th or worse. This weekend, though, Logano had a great qualifying effort on Friday and then showed great long run speed during practice on Saturday, ending up 9th-best on the ten-lap average chart. Through 20 career starts at this track, Logano has only led six total laps, but I fully expect him to add to that (by quite a bit) here on Sunday.
3. Kyle Larson – Starts 3rd – DraftKings Price: $8,000 – FanDuel Price: $10,600 – Slingshot Price: $10,800
All signs point to Kyle Larson turning his season around this weekend. Dover has been a great track for Kyle throughout the course of his career, as he has posted five finishes of 6th or better in his ten career starts and only has one result worse than 12th. He also led a combined 378 laps in the two races here in 2017. Looking at this weekend, Larson qualified on the second row on Friday and then blew everyone else out of the water on Saturday, posting the best 10-, 15-, and 20-lap averages during the lone practice session. As I said, it’s looking like it will be a great day for Larson on Sunday. This #42 team has had some incredibly bad luck this year, but from a Fantasy NASCAR perspective you just have to pick the best cars and not worry about what you can’t control. Larson has the best car heading into Sunday.
