All-Star Race Fantasy NASCAR Preview (UPDATED)
On Saturday night, NASCAR will be holding their All-Star Race. This race weekend is dramatically different from all the rest. Qualifying is different, the full field won’t be set until shortly before the race, a one-off rules package is being used and it’s uniquely short.
Qualifying for the All-Star Race will take place on Friday night. Drivers will run 3 laps and make a mandatory pit stop and their time will set the first 15 starting positions. Positions 16,17 and 18 will be from Open Stage winners. Position #19 will be set by the fan vote. Find out who I think will advance from the Open to make the All-Star Race.
The All-Star Race is a very short event. It’s 85 laps long and is broken into segments of 30, 20, 20 and 15 laps.

1) Kevin Harvick (Starting 3rd) – Kevin Harvick is the defending champion of the All-Star Race and on Saturday night I wouldn’t be surprised if the path to victory lane goes through him again. He’s thrived in this race and in 3 of the last 5 he’s finished in the top 2. Over that five race stretch his average finish is 4.4. In points paying races at Charlotte, he’s been impressive. Last spring he started in the rear of the field and was probably a factor to win, but he wrecked after getting a sudden flat while running in 4th on lap 82. In fall 2017 he led 149 laps and finished 3rd. This year at 1.5 mile tracks he’s been strong and has a 7.3 average finish over the combined races. Last week at Kansas, the #4 car was fast and looked like the car to beat for much of the race until he had problems. In the combined practice session, Harvick had the best 10 lap average. (DraftKings $9,800 / FanDuel $13,000 )
2) Kyle Busch (Starting 2nd) – Kyle Busch will be tough to beat in the All-Star Race. Its tailor made for aggressive drivers like him. He’s a recent winner (2017) and over the last four his average finish is 6.5. Last year in this exhibition event he finished 9th. In points paying races at Charlotte he’s been very strong. In last years Coca Cola 600 he led 377 laps and easily raced his way to victory lane. This year at 1.5 mile tracks he ranks as one of the best, but he has yet to have an incident free race. (DraftKings $10,500 / FanDuel $14,000 )
3) Joey Logano (Starting 10th) – Joey Logano is an aggressive racer who’ll be one of the drivers to beat in the All-Star Race. He’s a recent winner (2016) and since 2013 minus 2014 he has 3 results in the top three and has finished in the top 8 every race. Over that stretch minus 2014 his average finish is 4.4. This year at 1.5 mile tracks, Logano has been fast, but he’s had a quite a few misleading results. In his one incident free race at Las Vegas he raced his way to victory lane. In points paying races at Charlotte he’s had tough time in recent races, but don’t let that scare you away.(DraftKings $9,300 / FanDuel $12,500 )
