Sonoma Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Alex Bowman – Alex Bowman should solidly be on your fantasy NASCAR radar at Sonoma. He’s a solid road course racer and last year over the combined races on this track type he had a 9.0 average result and finished in the top 14 every race. Last year at Sonoma, Bowman ran well. He finished 9th, earned the 12th best driver rating and had a 14th place average running position. He has two other dreadful races here, but I wouldn’t bother reading into them since he wasn’t in a competitive situation.

Daniel Suarez – Daniel Suarez has dark horse potential at Sonoma. Stewart-Haas cars rank among the best of the best here and are always good over a long run. At Sonoma, Suarez has two starts under his belt and both of his results are in the mid-teens. Last year, Suarez finished 15th, had a 13th place average running position and earned the 13th best driver rating. In 2017 he finished 16th, had a 21st place average running position and earned the 20th best driver rating. That’s a good result when you consider on lap 3 he flat spotted a tire and made an unexpected pit stop which dropped him from 17th to 38th. I would say his finish is pretty representative of how he performed. On Sunday, I would look for Suarez to be a low-double digits driver who’ll compete for a top ten.
Erik Jones – Erik Jones will be a driver to watch at Sonoma. He’s shown potential on this track type and in 3 of the last 4 races he’s finished in the top ten. At Sonoma, Jones has two starts under his belt. He ran well last year and in his debut he was a complete dud. Last year at Sonoma, Jones was strong when it counted. When the checkered flag waved he finished 7th. Additionally, he earned the 11th best driver rating and had a 14th place average running position. In 2017 he didn’t run well at all. Personally I wouldn’t read into it too much. In that race he finished 25th, had a 25th place average running position and earned the 25th best driver rating. On Sunday I would look for Jones to compete for a top ten if he can avoid trouble.
