Sonoma NASCAR Happy Hour Practice Notes
Kyle Busch – He missed a turn early in practice. Later he missed the same turn again. Later he spun in turn #2. Near the end, he missed the same turn a third time. His crew chief was said to be pleased with his lap times.
Jimmie Johnson – 25 minutes into practice while he was 8th he said, “I think we are really close right there.” 50 minutes into practice his spotter told his crew chief, “They’re good lap times, we just have to stay nice and smooth with it.” Late in practice his team was looking into a possible power steering issue. I wouldn’t be too concerned about that issue.
William Byron – 25 minutes into practice while he was 5th after running 7 laps his crew chief said, “That’s a good pace right there, settle in and keep it up.” Brad Keselowski said this about him, “The 24 has gained a lot of time on us in the carousel.”
Alex Bowman – 25 minutes into practice while he was 15th he said his car started off good but just lost front grip as he continued to run laps. Had the best 15 lap average.
Clint Bowyer – Likes his car. In practice #1 his car was better than his team expected. He started this session with two long runs to get a good feel for his car. Jeff Gordon liked his long run speed. His 15 lap average ranked as the 2nd best.
