Chicagoland Fantasy NASCAR Top Tier Elite Picks
Martin Truex Jr. – Martin Truex Jr. will be a factor at Chicagoland. He’s the most recent winner at a 1.5 mile track (Charlotte) and at Chicagoland he’s won 2 of the last 3 races. Over the last three combined races at Chicagoland he has the best driver rating and a 2nd place average finish. Last year, Truex Jr. had a great car. He started near the back and raced his way to a 4th place finish. Additionally, he finished 3rd in Stage #1, 4th in Stage #2, had a 7th place average running position and earned the 5th best driver rating. In 2017, Truex Jr. didn’t have an incident free race but he still raced his way to victory lane. On lap 42 while he was running in 2nd he was caught speeding on pit road. After that he hit the after burners and still finished 10th in Stage #1 despite there being no caution in that Stage. Additionally, he finished 3rd in Stage #2 and led 77 laps. In 2016 Truex Jr. had a great car, but it should be noted if there wasn’t a late caution that he was able to take advantage of he probably would’ve finished 2nd. Additionally in the race he earned the 2nd best driver rating and led 32 laps. On Sunday, look for Truex Jr. to finish in the top five and be a serious threat to win.

Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch is the defending champion at Chicagoland and on Sunday he should once again be considered the favorite. He’s run extremely well here having finished in the top ten in 6 of the last 7 races. Last year, Busch had a great car and when it was “go-time” at the end he was at his best. When the checkered flag waved he finished 1st, earned the 3rd best driver rating, had an 8th place average running position and led 59 laps. In 2017, Busch had a phenomenal car, but finished a misleading 15th. In the race he started on the pole and led 85 of the first 87 laps. On lap 97 while he was running in 2nd he made an unexpected pit stop because of a loose wheel and as he was coming to his pit stall he was penalized when his crew went over the wall too soon. He wasn’t able to overcome that and that’s why he finished 15th. In 2016 he had a strong showing. He finished 8th, had a 7th place average running position, earned the 7th best driver rating and led 21 laps. I will note his race wasn’t incident free. On lap 174 while he was running in 4th he was caught speeding on pit road and had to serve a pass thru penalty. On Sunday, look for Busch to finish in the top five and compete for the win.
Joey Logano – Joey Logano is poised to have a strong performance at Chicagoland. He’s been one of the best drivers at high-speed intermediate tracks this year and he’s run well in the “Windy City.” Over the last five races at Chicagoland he’s finished in the top ten every race, has a 5.4 average finish and a 7.4 average running position. Last year at Chicagoland, Logano had a strong showing. He finished 8th, had an 8th place average running position and earned the 9th best driver rating. Additionally, he finished 8th in Stage #1 and 10th in Stage #2. In 2017 he also ran well. He finished 7th, had a 6th place average running position and earned the 8th best driver rating. Additionally, he finished 5th in Stage #1 and 7th in Stage #2. In 2016 Logano had a great car and finished runner-up. Also in the race he earned the 5th best driver rating and had a 6th place average running position. I will note if there wasn’t a late caution which helped him he probably would’ve finished 5th. In the two Chicagoland races prior to that he had results of 4th and 6th. In the last two races held at high-speed intermediate tracks, Logano has results of 1st (Michigan) and 2nd (Charlotte). On Sunday, look for Logano to compete for a top five.
