The Fantasy NASCAR Low Tier – Daytona
Corey LaJoie – Remember Corey LaJoie’s paint job in the season opening Daytona 500? Well, it didn’t last for long and on lap 21 he had a shredded tire which did a good amount of damage to his car. That didn’t mark the end of his race and he continued to log laps, although not competitively. Thanks to the high attrition rate he walked away with an 18th place finish. Last year at Daytona, he crashed in July (finished 31st) and his engine blew up in the Daytona 500 (finished 40th). At Talladega, the other super speedway on the schedule he finished 11th this spring.
Landon Cassill – Landon Cassill hasn’t been great at Daytona, but he also hasn’t been miserably bad. He’s been a middle of the road performer in recent races. In 5 of the last 6 races at this wild card track he’s finished between 16th to 24th. In this years Daytona 500 he crashed, but came home with a 24th place finish. Last year he had results of 24th and 19th.
Matt Tifft – Matt Tifft has two super speedway starts under his belt in NASCAR’s top series and he’s crashed in both races. That’s certainly not encouraging, but perhaps he’s due for some good luck now. In the season opening Daytona 500 he had a tough race and finished 36th after getting caught up in a late wreck with about ten laps to go. I will note he didn’t run well prior to that and shortly before crashing he was running in the low-thirties.
