Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Daytona
NOTE: This post is about what drivers had an asterisk mark result in the 2019 Daytona 500
In last years season opening Daytona 500 just about everybody wrecked, literally! 21 drivers had a DNF because they crashed. Many drivers who crossed the finish line were also involved in a wreck. Jimmie Johnson was involved in an accident on pit road that scalped the side of his car and he was later involved in another accident and he still finished 9th.
Since so many drivers had trouble, I’m only going to mention the drivers who showed the most potential, but walked away with a misleading result.
Clint Bowyer – Clint Bowyer was a contender to win the 2019 Daytona 500, but he finished an asterisk mark 20th. Late in the race while he was running in the top five he was collected in a wreck that led to his poor result.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. – Ricky Stenhouse Jr. finished 13th in the Daytona 500. That’s a good result, but he was better than his finish. Late in the race while he was running around 7th he wrecked.
William Byron – William Byron had a great car at Daytona, but he finished 21st when the checkered flag waved. That result doesn’t reflect how well he ran. In the race he earned the best driver rating, had an 8th place average running position, led 44 laps and finished 2nd in Stage #2. With 4 laps to go he was running in 7th, but then with two laps to go he was caught up in a wreck that led to his poor result.
Daniel Suarez – Daniel Suarez has crashed in 4 of his 5 Daytona races. In last years “Great American Race” Suarez had a good car, but crashed late and finished 33rd. One lap prior to his late demise he was running in 14th. Additionally, he finished 4th in Stage #1 and 8th in Stage #2.
