Denny Hamlin who won the pole led the opening lap.

On lap 2, Kyle Busch took the lead and he then led the next 16 laps.

Big Moment: On lap 2, Joey Logano went off-roading and this ultimately marked the end of his race. His oil cooler broke and his team took his car to the garage thinking they could repair it, but in essence it default ended their race since it violated the damaged vehicle policy.

Big Moment: On lap 2, Aric Almirola backed his car into the wall after contact. This brought out the first caution. Almirola had a good amount of damage.

Notable Moment: On lap 8, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. who was in 18th spun in turn 1. David Ragan who was right behind him also spun at the same time. Neither of them hit anything and got back going again.

Notable Moment: On lap 14, Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s grill was covered with grass because he did a little off-roading. Later that lap he came to pit road to clean it off.

Kurt Busch started in 36th. On lap 16 he was up to 16th.

Around lap 17, lots of drivers came to pit road as a strategy move.
