Asterisk Mark Report – Watkins Glen
Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin didn’t have an incident free race last year at Watkins Glen and he finished a misleading 13th. While he was running in 3rd during a caution around lap 54 he was penalized for driving through too many pit stalls and that dropped him back into the 20’s. If his race would’ve been incident free, I think he was poised to finish in the top 5.
Kyle Busch – Kyle Busch finished 3rd last year at Watkins Glen, but that’s an asterisk mark result. “Performance Wise”, I thought he had the best car but his race wasn’t incident free. In the race he led 31 laps but while he was leading around lap 54 during a pit stop under caution his team had fueling problems and this caused him to make a second pit stop which dropped him back to about 20th. He then charged hard through the field without the help of caution and managed to finish 3rd. That’s impressive.
Joey Logano – Nobody had a shorter race than Joey Logano last year at Watkins Glen. He started in 6th and only completed one lap before his day came to an end. On lap #2 he went off-roading and broke his oil cooler. His team then took his car to the garage to fix the issue but because of the “Damaged Vehicle Policy” it marked the end of his race which led to his last place finish (37th).
