Watkins Glen NASCAR Practice #1 Notes

Jimmie Johnson – This week his new crew chief, Cliff Daniels is making his debut. It’s said that he seemed confident. Early in the session his car showed good speed and 10 minutes in he was 5th on the speed chart. 25 minutes into practice while he was 9th he said he improved through the esses but needs more drive off.

Bubba Wallace – His transmission broke and he only completed 3 laps this session.

Matt Tifft – About 10 minutes into practice he spun out all by himself exiting turn 9. He didn’t hit anything and got no damage. 35 minutes into practice while he was 31st he said, “Still a little tight all over.”

Kyle Busch – His car showed a lot of speed. 20 minutes into practice he was at the top of the speed chart. His 5 lap average ranked as the best. He ended the session with the 2nd best overall speed (Alex Bowman did a late qualifying run).

Martin Truex Jr. – His car looked strong this session. 10 minutes into practice he jumped to the top of the leaderboard. He ended the session 7th.
