The Fantasy NASCAR Low Tier – Michigan
David Ragan – Michigan has been pretty brutal to David Ragan. Over the last six races he’s finished 27th or worse. Earlier this year, Ragan showed potential, but late trouble led to his 34th place finish. With 37 laps to go while he was in the high-teens he had contact with Matt Tifft and that led to an unexpected pit stop. Then with 24 laps to go he got into the wall again. Prior to his problems starting I think he looked like a 20th place performer. Last summer he didn’t run well. He finished 27th, had a 24th place average running position and earned the 24th best driver rating. Last spring he had a tough race and finished 38th after crashing on lap 35 while he was battling for 26th. In the race he started 27th so its pretty clear he probably wasn’t going to finish well anyways. In 2017 he had results of 29th and 30th.
Corey LaJoie – At Michigan, I would look for Corey LaJoie to likely be about a 25th to 30th place driver. That’s essentially how his team typically performs on a weekly basis. If things go really well he might be able to finish marginally better. This year at high-speed intermediate tracks minus Charlotte where he finished unusually well (12th) he has a 27.3 average finish and a 28.6 average running position. Earlier this year at MIS, LaJoie finished 23rd and had a 27th place average running position. Last year, his engine blew up in the summer (40th) and in the spring he finished 27th.
Ross Chastain – At Michigan, I think Ross Chastian is poised to be a high-twenties to low-thirties driver. That’s essentially his teams weekly level of performance. Earlier this year at Michigan, Chastain missed the race so he could compete in the Truck Series. Last year at Michigan, Chastain had axle problems in the summer (finished 35th) and in the rain shortened spring race he finished 26th.
Landon Cassill – At Michigan, look for Landon Cassill to likely be a high-twenties to low-thirties driver. In 4 of the last 5 races at this 2.0 mile oval he’s finished between 29th to 32nd. Earlier this year, Cassill didn’t run well. When the checkered flag waved he finished 29th and had a 30th place average running position. Last year at MIS in his current ride he was quite bad. He finished 29th in the summer and 32nd in the spring.
