Darlington Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. – Darlington hasn’t been that friendly of a track for Ricky Stenhouse Jr. His average finish is 22.5 and he’s only finished better than 18th once. The good news is that his lone good finish came last year. In 2018 when the checkered flag waved he finished 12th, earned the 17th best driver rating and had a 19th place average running position. I’ll note late cautions helped him because if they didn’t come out he likely would’ve finished in the high-teens. In 2017, he didn’t run well and finished 29th. Around lap 41 he got into the wall hard and brought out a caution. He was running around 20th at that time and after that his race competitively was over. In 2016, Stenhouse Jr. was slightly better than his result. In the race he finished 18th, had a 15th place average running position and earned the 16th best driver rating. In 2015, Stenhouse Jr. didn’t have an incident free race. On lap 198 while he was running in 17th he spun and totaled his car. On Sunday, I would look for Stenhouse Jr. to likely be a high-teens driver.

Ty Dillon – Ty Dillon has two Darlington races on his resume. He was good in his debut, and he was a dud last year. In 2018 he had a pretty forgettable evening. When the race reached its conclusion he finished 21st, earned the 22nd best driver rating and had a 24th place average running position. It was just a quiet low-twenties performance. In 2017 in his debut when the checkered flag waved he finished 13th, had a 17th place average running position and earned the 16th best driver rating. I will note his result is legitimate.
Michael McDowell – At Darlington, I would look for Michael McDowell to be a high-teens to mid-twenties driver. That’s largely been his 2019 weekly level of performance. In his last two races at Darlington he’s finished within that range. Last year, McDowell was a low-twenties driver. He finished 20th and had a 24th place average running position. In 2017, McDowell had his best performance at Darlington and finished 19th. Additionally, he earned the 18th best driver rating and had a 20th place average running position. In 2016 he finished 27th. I wouldn’t consider any of his prior results as relevant.
