Indianapolis NASCAR Practice #1 Notes
Ryan Newman – He spent the entire session in race trim. 20 minutes into practice while he was 25th he said he was too loose. 40 minutes into practice while he was 27th he wasn’t that happy with his car and it was too loose. His team plans to be aggressive on Sunday.
Matt DiBenedetto – He missed the final 15 minutes of this practice session because of multiple inspection failures at Darlington. 35 minutes into practice while he was 17th he said, “The front end is sliding still.”
Indy 5 Lap Average Speed Rankings
Kyle Busch – His car looked really strong. 45 minutes into practice he was 4th on the speed chart. Following his late run he said, “Started out decent, but kept getting tighter.”
Jimmie Johnson – His car “porpoised” (his words) on his first lap around Indy and he immediately came to pit road. 20 minutes into practice he jumped to the top of the speed chart. 25 minutes into practice he reported that his car is a bit loose. 45 minutes into practice he climbed up to the top of the speed chart and following that run he said, “Good job today fellas!” When other drivers did runs in qualifying trim he ended up finishing the session in 9th.
Alex Bowman – Following his opening run which put him 13th he said,“I get tight late off of Turn 1. It’s a little edgy on entry.” Late in practice while he was 4th he said, “Good practice guys. We will debrief a little and then change what we need to for final practice.” He ended the session 7th.
