Asterisk Mark Report – Dover
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. – Nobody had a more misleading result than Ricky Stenhouse Jr. this spring at Dover. On lap 105 he had a tire go down and it led to him getting into the wall hard which doomed him to a 33rd place finish. He was able to continue racing, but he was many laps down and was no longer competitive. Over the first 100 laps prior to his problem he typically ran right around 10th. If his race would’ve been incident free, there’s a good chance he might’ve been a top ten contender. At Dover since fall 2015 minus his misleading result this spring, and a misleading result in spring 2017 his average finish is 12.7.
Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin didn’t have a good race this spring at Dover and he finished a slightly misleading 21st. His car was never to his liking and his race wasn’t incident free. In the last segment he had a minor spin and brought out the caution. Additionally, I’ll note he had a 19th place average running position and earned the 21st best driver rating. If his race would’ve been incident free, I think there’s a good chance he was likely a mid to high-teens driver but certainly not better than that.
